Solar Panel Maintenance Is Easy

Most solar panels don’t require much maintenance to ensure they function properly for years. However, your panels might need a little more care depending on the type of solar array you have.

Simple Cleaning

Dirt and debris can accumulate on your solar panels over time. If left unchecked, this debris can build up and negatively impact how much energy your solar panels can produce. Solar panels are easy to clean, just remember not to use soap or harsh cleaning agents.

Gently spraying your solar panels down with water from your hose as the seasons change is a great way to ensure your panels stay clean and undamaged.

Safety Tip

Always remember to turn off your solar energy system before you clean your panels!

Clearing Snow And Ice From Your Solar Panels

Cleaning your solar panels in the winter can get a little more complicated when there is heavy snowfall or ice. Since your panels are usually angled, most light snow and ice melt quickly and slide off.

However, if you’re dealing with multiple days of heavy snow and ice at temperatures below freezing, you may want to manually clear it off your solar panels.

Safety Tip

Never use hot water to clear snow and ice from your panels. This can make your panels crack! Stick with lukewarm water to melt snow and ice, or brush snow off gently (never use a snow shovel).

Professional Solar Panel Maintenance

When your solar energy system is installed, we’ll answer all your questions about maintaining your solar panels. Most solar energy systems need maintenance 2-4 times a year. It’s generally a good idea to have your solar panels maintained seasonally.

If your home is surrounded by trees, your solar panels might need more frequent maintenance to keep tree sap and bird droppings at a minimum.

Professional maintenance services don’t just clean your panels, it includes checking the system’s performance, wiring, and other connections to ensure everything is still performing the way it should.
